Dr. Riolo believes that the knowledge necessary to create beautiful smiles is gained through a combination of education, practical experience, and dedication to lifelong learning. This is why despite being a full-time orthodontist at Bellevue Orthodontics, Dr. Riolo is also an Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington and lectures to orthodontic residents, but also dentists and orthodontists nationwide. He is a well-regarded expert in digital orthodontics, custom esthetic appliances, and lingual orthodontics. He has published a number of scientific articles and textbook chapters.
Dr. Riolo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). ABO certification is a voluntary and challenging process beyond specialty training which involves presenting a series of 10 cases to a panel of well-regarded experts for evaluation. Only about one-third of orthodontists in the United States are certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Riolo’s status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics demonstrates his passion and commitment to excellence.
Dr. Riolo was born and raised in Michigan. Orthodontics has always been a part of his life as his father was also an orthodontist and university professor. Dr. Riolo attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he studied mathematics. He later attended the University of Michigan for his dental degree and completed his orthodontic training at the University of Detroit Mercy. Upon completion of his specialty training, Dr. Riolo decided to continue his education at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health, where he received a PhD in Epidemiology.
He and Dr. Bayirli have been happily married for nearly 20 years and have 2 beautiful daughters, Mina and Banu. Dr. Riolo and his family relocated to the Seattle area in 2010. Dr. Riolo is the proud owner of 2 dogs. Max the labradoodle and Moose the poodle. Dr. Riolo has been a pilot since high school and in his spare time enjoys flying, sailing, and skiing.
