Dr. Burcu Bayirli is an orthodontist trained at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington in the Departments of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry where she teaches dental students and orthodontic and pediatric residents. Dr. Bayirli’s focus in teaching pediatric dentistry is on early orthodontic treatment for young children. Dr. Bayirli is also the orthodontic clerkship director for dental students studying to be dentists at the University of Washington, School of Dentistry. She regularly lectures on complex topics in orthodontics to the orthodontic residents. Dr. Bayirli also conducts scientific research, with a focus on public health orthodontics and dentoskeletal effects of orthodontic appliances. She is a published author to many scientific articles and textbook chapters.
Dr. Bayirli is originally from Turkey and was born and raised in Istanbul where she attended the American Academy for Girls. After completing her dental degree, she moved to Michigan in 1993 where she completed her orthodontic training and earned her MS and PhD degrees. Drs. Bayirli and Riolo are married and have two beautiful daughters, Mina and Banu. In 2011, they moved permanently from Michigan to the Pacific Northwest which they have since called their home. When not in the office, Dr. Bayirli loves spending time with her family. She is an avid skier and loves to go on bike rides to explore Seattle and Bellevue?s charming neighborhoods!
Dr. Bayirli is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). This is a voluntary and challenging process beyond the three years required to become an orthodontist. Only about one-third of orthodontists in the United States are certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Bayirli’s status as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics demonstrates her passion and commitment to excellence in orthodontics.
